"A Mother’s Love: Turning Tragedy into Hope"
In 2013, Rebika, a hardworking single mother, broke barriers by becoming Nepal’s first female heavy bus driver for Sajha Yatayat(a public transportation bus service in Nepa). She worked hard out of love for her 17-year-old son, Bibek, who was talented in robotics and music, dreaming of creating new technology and making music. Sadly, in 2017, Bibek passed away suddenly, leaving Rebika heartbroken. As a single mother, she often had to lock Bibek in their small room while she worked as a tempo driver(a 3 wheel vehicle), a memory that now caused her deep pain. Determined that no child should feel so lonely or unloved, Rebika decided to turn her sadness into action. Her determination grew stronger when she met Bir Bahadur and Sonish Moktan, two boys begging on the streets because their father was disabled. Seeing their struggle, Rebika gave up everything to create a safe home for children in need. On October 8, 2020, she started Bibek Swachchha Sewa Kendra (BSSK) in memory of her son. BSSK’s goal is to make sure no child feels alone, abandoned, or unloved, and no mother suffers the pain and heatbreak Rebika endured. Today, BSSK helps many children, showing that love and strength can turn sadness into hope. Rebika’s story shows the power of a mother’s love, keeping Bibek’s dreams alive through the children she helps.
